The Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has resumed office after he was decorated by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday.

Baba was until his appointment the Force Secretary at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The Yobe State-born top officer of the Nigeria Police Force was born on March 1, 1963 and bagged a Master’s Degree in public administration from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state in 1997 and a Bachelor of Arts from the Bayero Usman University, Kano in 1985.

His appointments and as Acting IGP on the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari. Ọ

He immediately replaces Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi had disclosed the appointment to State House correspondents on Tuesday.

The President had on the 4th of February, extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police for three months out of which the erstwhile police boss spent two months and three days.

According to the minister, Usman Alkali Baba’s appointment was carefully made, after the president considered issues of professionalism, competence, and numerous years of service.

The President had urged the new IGP Usman Alkali Baba to, among other things, ensure that policing reform policies are fully prioritised to engender peace across the country.

As part of his policing vision, he aims to enhance police primacy in Nigeria through the provision of motivational and credible leadership, directed at stabilising internal security and modernising police operations, facilities, and standards within the framework of citizens, consent, trust, and the rule of law.

The IGP assumed office at a time of increasing insecurity in the country. Most citizens maintain that the new IGP must made do his words in not only modernising police operations but also ticking to the principle of rule of law and respect for human rights.
