#BuildtheNation: Regional Leaders Gather at South Sudan Oil & Power 2021

Celebrating a decade of independence and taking place against a backdrop of sustained peace and resilience, South Sudan welcomes guests to South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) 2021; SSOP 2021 will take place at the Crown Hotel in Juba on the 29th-30th June 2021, in accordance with all COVID-19 regulations.

The event is open to in-person delegates and the online livestream is available for free registration.

Under the theme #BuildtheNation, SSOP 2021’s comprehensive event program comprising presentations from Ministerial departments, industry leaders, and both regional and international stakeholders emphasize infrastructure, progress and exploration.

As South Sudan celebrates a decade of independence, the country welcomes regional leaders and industry executives to the fourth edition of South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) 2021. Taking place at the Crown Hotel in Juba on the 29th-30th June 2021 and organized by Energy Capital & Power (ECP), SSOP 2021 will focus on exploration, infrastructure, power sector expansion, and financing to stimulate an industry revival and drive socioeconomic growth country-wide.

Representing the first event in ECP’s renewed calendar, SSOP 2021 is a testament to the significant international interest and recognition of South Sudan as a top investment destination. Driven by renewed peace and reconciliation, ECP fully supports and celebrates South Sudan at its decade of independence.

South Sudan is prioritizing cooperation and partnerships through the establishment of regional ties. With attendance confirmations and support granted by influential foreign ministers on South Sudan’s tenth anniversary as an independent nation, regional growth and unity remain at the forefront of SSOP 2021.

As the nation’s primary energy conference, SSOP 2021 will host regional ministers and government representatives from all over the world. Launching the conference under the theme #BuildtheNation: Capital raising and innovative financing to build critical energy and infrastructure projects, keynote speeches and presentations will be made by Hon. Puot Kang Chol, Minister of Petroleum; Hon. Peter Marcello Nasir, Minister of Energy and Dams; Hon. Kuol Athian Mawien, Minister of Trade and Industry; Hon. Dhieu Mathok Diing, Minister of Investment; and Hon. Gen. James Hoth Mai, Minister of Labour.

Guest ministers from around the region are scheduled to speak and hold meetings. These include Hon. Jaden Ali, Minister of Energy and Oil, Sudan; Hon. Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Somalia; Hon. Tarek El-Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Egypt; Hon. Dr. Mohamed Shaker El-Markabi, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Egypt; and Hon. Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, South Africa.

Notably, SSOP 2021 will see individual presentations by national oil company Nilepet, and joint operating companies Dar Petroleum Operating Company, Greater Pioneer Operating Company and Sudd Petroleum Operating Company, as well as workshops by Afreximbank and Stanbic Bank. Focusing on new and existing projects across South Sudan, the presentations and workshops will provide critical information for investors interested in this new and rewarding market.

South Sudan is committed to dramatically improving living standards, spurring industrialization, and driving socioeconomic growth through key infrastructure developments. Backed by a comprehensive Infrastructure Development Plan, the country is pursuing transportation improvements through road network developments, a power sector revival through the upscaling of grid connectivity and transmission, and water and sanitation improvements through key projects.

In light of these new developments, Hon. Caesar Oliha Marko, Chairman, National Petroleum and Gas Commission will give an introductory keynote focused on unlocking investment to build the nation followed by an opening keynote address by NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman, African Energy Chamber. With exploration and production at the forefront of South Sudan’s national agenda, SSOP 2021’s program agenda will also include an informative presentation by Bol Ring Mourwel Kon, Managing Director of South Sudan’s national oil company, Nilepet.

Moreover, the Ministry of Petroleum will present details about the country’s newly launched licensing round, focused on accelerating exploration and production at new and existing blocks, and promoting the country as a competitive investment destination, as well as information regarding production resumption at SPOC’s Block 5A from the Tharjiath Central Processing Facility into the Tharjiath – WNPOC Heglic Control Centre pipeline, which resumed this week after seven years of production shutdown; while Godfrey Moagi, CEO, Strategic Fuel Fund (SFF) and George Adesanya Country Manager, Oranto Petroleum will provide valuable information about exploration activities in Blocks B2 and B3.

To honor the South Sudanese and international ministers, the Strategic Fuel Fund of South Africa, as diamond sponsor, will host a ministerial gala dinner on the 29th of June. Organized with the support and endorsement of the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Energy and Dams, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Labor, SSOP 2021 will lead the future of investment and development in South Sudan. South Sudan’s impressive energy and infrastructure developments invite a new era of stability and growth in which ECP is proud to be a part of.
