The frenzy of EndSARS movement first anniversary is yet to die down. 11-10-21 will remain a date of gory in the annals of citizens’ right to peaceful protests in Nigeria, a day of blood when youths with Nigerian flags in their hands, singing the National Anthem were shot at by the Army. Who commanded this carnage is the question on every lip, yet to find an answer, not even from the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces!

Police brutality has become part of official dealing of policing in Nigeria through an arm of the force Known as Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (SARS). They kill and maim at will. This arm of the police seems to have disdain for young Nigerians! Being a youth was practically a crime to this unit of the police!

Trendy look, fashionable hair styles, good car are enough reasons to brutalise any young person without regard for gender. Cases of rapes of young girls are traumatic memories of this unit of the Nigeria police force!

In this tech driving world where data is life and internet presence is key to influence in whatever you are involved in legally, it is practically impossible to be a student without owning a laptop! It is to them in learning today what hardcover note book was to us in our days back in school, but the SARS arm of the police wouldn’t see nice phones, i-pad and laptop with young people, they will automatically criminalise them!

This situation got to the head in October 2020 when Nigerian youths rose in unison and protested the continue harassment of the peer to government.

Aimanose, a Nigerian youth once beaten by security agents has spoken on his traumatic experience of security agents brutality!

Aimanose, now 23, was 21 when his home in Auchi in Edo State, South South Nigeria was invaded by security agents who were searching for his lecturer father over his involvement with a leading political advocacy group, PVC-Naija, he had represented the then President of the group, Dr Bolaji O. Akinyemi at a Good Governance awareness program held for the students in his campus tagged the “Value of Your Vote”.

He has, in the paper he presented, held the Government in power culpable of the atrocities associated with insecurity in the country.

There was palpable tension in the compound during the invasion, not even the locked door will deter the “unknown gunmen” as they are called today, in their adventure for blood, they broke the door according to Odion Aimanose Emmanuel who spoke to Dr Bolaji O. Akinyemi through his father’s friend’s line, thus the home of Mr Oziegbe Odion, the father of Odion Aimanose Emmanuel was invaded.

Unfortunately, the senior Odion was not in the house.

It is a known fact that Nigerian security agents have phobia for the Academia. This was compounded by Aimanose upon mentioning the name of his father and that he was a lecturer, unknown to him, his father was the target of the gestapo like operation. He was pounced upon, beaten and brutalised. Thus leaving him and his siblings at their mercy. They were all beaten to a pulp, Aimanose was stripped of his phone, i-pad and laptop!

He was still visibly shaken as a result of the experience, he broke down several times why relating the experience of his family in the hands of Nigerian security agents!

May the wishes of Nigerian youths for a civil society where all can be free to express themselves, contribute the creativity and live their dreams come to pass!
