In a statement brimming with commendation and optimism, the management and members of the NAFESOJE Empowerment Foundation and ANCSOs have extended warm congratulations to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu, psc(+), on his appointment as the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The statement describes the appointment as “well-deserved” and underscores the strategic timing, noting the critical juncture at which the nation’s security apparatus currently finds itself. The organisations further lauded President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for what they called “a strategic and thoughtful appointment,” reflecting a commitment to operational effectiveness, professionalism, and public accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
Highlighting IGP Disu’s career, the statement emphasizes: “His distinguished record of service—particularly his operational leadership in Lagos and Rivers States—demonstrates courage, strategic foresight, and a proven capacity for decisive action in complex security environments. His track record in combating violent crime, dismantling criminal networks, and enhancing community-police relations provides a solid foundation for national leadership at this pivotal time.”
The statement also stressed the scale of Nigeria’s current security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, organised crime, and communal conflicts. In response, it urged IGP Disu to “deploy his tested experience, institutional knowledge, and reform-driven mindset toward implementing bold, intelligence-led, and technology-enabled policing strategies capable of restoring public confidence and substantially reducing insecurity across the federation.”
Further directives included prioritising “inter-agency coordination, operational discipline, continuous capacity building, improved welfare for officers and personnel, and strengthened community engagement frameworks,” measures the organisations described as “indispensable for building a responsive, citizen-focused policing architecture equipped to address both urban and rural security threats.”
NAFESOJE Empowerment Foundation and ANCSOs also appealed to all stakeholders—state governments, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, the private sector, and citizens—to “extend full cooperation and constructive support to the Inspector-General of Police,” reinforcing that national security is “a shared responsibility” requiring collective commitment.
Concluding on a note of optimism, the statement assured IGP Disu of the organisations’ moral support, saying: “We are optimistic that under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Force will witness renewed strategic direction, enhanced professionalism, and measurable improvements in internal security outcomes. Once again, we congratulate IGP Olatunji Disu on his appointment and wish him wisdom, courage, resilience, and outstanding success in the service of our nation.”
