The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced the construction of a new 330kV Turn-In Turn-Out transmission line at its Ihovbor Work Centre in Benin City, a project aimed at strengthening electricity transmission and improving bulk power supply across the country.
In a statement issued by the companyโs management at the weekend, TCN disclosed that the project involves the stringing of the IhovborโAjaokuta 330kV transmission line as part of efforts to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the national electricity grid.
According to the company, construction of the transmission line began on Friday, February 27, 2026, and is expected to be completed by Tuesday, March 30, 2026.
The power utility explained that the project is designed to improve its capacity to evacuate more electricity generated by the Azura Power Plant and the NIPP Power Plant to transmission substations across the national grid.
TCN noted that the development would also enhance transmission channels, provide additional capacity for electricity distribution, and reinforce the reliability of bulk power delivery nationwide.
The company further stated that upon completion of the new transmission infrastructure, the two lines will significantly boost the operational capacity of the Ihovbor Transmission Substation, thereby improving the stability of electricity supply within the grid network.
TCN emphasised that the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to expanding Nigeriaโs transmission network and increasing its wheeling capacity to support improved efficiency and dependable electricity supply across the country.
