The Kano State Government (KNSG) has announced a series of stringent measures to regulate activities during the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, following intelligence reports warning of planned disruptions aimed at breaching public peace.
In a press statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government disclosed that credible intelligence obtained through the State Security Council points to deliberate attempts by certain individuals to incite confusion and trigger a breakdown of law and order during the Sallah festivities.
The statement emphasized that while the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains deeply committed to preserving Kanoโs rich cultural heritage, it will not compromise its constitutional duty to ensure the protection of lives and property, as well as the maintenance of peace and order across the state.
Following consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other critical stakeholders, the government approved specific arrangements for the traditional Durbar activities.
The Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will proceed under the leadership of His Highness, Sarkin Kano Muhammad Sanusi II. The procession is scheduled to commence from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground, pass through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and conclude at Kofar Fatalwa within the Kano Emirโs Palace.
However, adjustments have been made to other traditional outings. Hawan Nasarawa will still take place but in a modified format, notably without horseback displays. Meanwhile, Hawan Daushe has been suspended and deferred to subsequent Sallah celebrations. Similarly, both Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have been put on hold for the time being in the interest of public safety and peace.
To ensure strict adherence to these directives, all security agencies have been placed on high alert, with orders to intensify surveillance operations and enforce compliance before, during, and after the festive period. Authorities have also been empowered to take all lawful actions necessary to forestall any breach of peace.
The government called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and supportive of security efforts, urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to carry on with their normal activities peacefully throughout the Sallah season and beyond.
It further commended the dedication and professionalism of security agencies in maintaining stability across the state and reassured citizens of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.
The Kano State Government concluded by extending warm wishes to Muslims, praying for a joyous and peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, while wishing all residents a happy Sallah in advance.
