The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Bello Lawal, has extended warm Easter greetings to Christians across the country, urging Nigerians to embrace unity, love, and peaceful coexistence during the festive season.
In a statement issued on Friday from the ALGON Secretariat in Abuja, Lawal highlighted the spiritual significance of Easter, describing it as a period that embodies love, hope, and redemption. He encouraged citizens to reflect on these values and channel them toward national development and harmony.
The ALGON President particularly commended Christians in Plateau State for their resilience and steadfast faith despite ongoing security challenges. He offered prayers for lasting peace and stability in the state, while acknowledging ongoing efforts by government authorities to address insecurity.
Lawal also expressed concern over security challenges affecting several parts of the country, including Katsina State, Kebbi State, Sokoto State, Borno State, Niger State, Kwara State, and Kaduna State, as well as other rural communities experiencing isolated incidents of violence.
He reaffirmed ALGONโs commitment to supporting government initiatives aimed at promoting peace and security at the grassroots level. According to him, the association has intensified engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), while strengthening inter-agency collaboration with key institutions to tackle insecurity and bridge gaps within local government areas and area councils nationwide.
Expressing optimism about the countryโs future, Lawal emphasized the importance of collective responsibility, including improved intelligence gathering and cooperation among stakeholders, as critical steps toward overcoming Nigeriaโs challenges.
He concluded by wishing all Christians a joyous and blessed Easter celebration, praying for divine guidance and protection for the nation.
