Free, Fair Election, Key Determinant For Better Nigeria – Says Group
A group, Coalition For A Better Nigeria on Thursday urged all hands to ensure the elections were not rigged in favour of any candidate as only a free and fair polls would ensure the emergence of a better Nigeria.
The coalition said this in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Awa Bamiji, adding that the electoral process should be monitored by every Nigerian.
“All hands must be on desk henceforth to forestall rigging, violence and political assassination before, during and after Saturday March 28, and April 11 general elections in the country.
“We implore all Nigerians to monitor the electoral process and be able to record or snap with their mobile phones any event that runs foul to the electoral guidelines.
“We are all aware of the ongoing political intimidation, harassment among our politicians”, the statement read, noting, “We will continue to condemn such.
“A faction of the opc members led by Otunba Gani Adams has suddenly become an electoral canvasser in Lagos State and it is continuously disturbing the peace of Lagosians under the pretext of campaigning for President Goodluck Jonathan.”
On eligibility suits against the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, the group maintained that the suits were unnecessary saying, “it depicts the uncivilized nature of our politics. Perhaps, it is another plot to scuttle the ongoing democratic process since this same Buhari was not disqualified in 2003, 2007 and 2011 presidential elections by either the electoral body or competent court of law.”
