Breaking: How Air Force Helicopter Crashed in Lagos

helicopter crashA  Nigerian Air Force helicopter has crashed in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The crash occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) at about 10a.m. on Friday after a training mission.

Director, Public Relations and Information, Nigeria Air Force, Air Commodore Dele Alonge in a statement confirmed the accident.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, was said to have immediately ordered investigation into circumstances that led to  helicopters crash.

The Air Force spokesman, Alonge, stated that the helicopter, which was returning to the Apron after the completion of the exercise, suffered severe damage due to hydraulic failure while taxing to the Hanger.

He said there was no casualty, although the main Rotor debris damaged some ground equipment.

“The helicopter suffered a severe damage due to hydraulic failure while on taxi to the Hanger,” the spokesman for the Air Force,  said in the statement.

A source within the airport community had earlier told reporters that the blade of the aircraft came off in flight.

The last time an aircraft accident occurred around the airport in Lagos was in October of 2013, when an aircraft operated by Associated Airlines, crashed as it had barely taken off from the domestic wing of the MMIA.
