Days to the expiration of his tenure as a Governor, members of the Enugu State House of Assembly on Monday kick started impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime.
The governor was accused by the lawmakers of high handedness and corrupt enrichment.
Fourteen lawmakers, led by the Speaker, Hon. Eugene Odo sat early Monday morning where they read a notice of impeachment against Chime for allegedly forging N12 billion 2012 Supplementary Budget.
However, The Street Reporters gathered that eight other lawmakers voided the process and also allegedly impeached the Speaker, Odo.Â
He was allegedly replaced by Chinedu Nwamba, representing Nsukka East constituency.
Chime’s spokesman, Chukwudi Achife, insisted that the Speaker of the Assembly, Odoh, has been removed and a new speaker elected.
Reports say that Chime had asked the Assembly to approve N11 billion for the construction of a secretariat, which the Assembly allegedly turned.
This was said to have angered Chime who allegedly urged the eight members of the Assembly to remove Odoh from office.
