Marginalization: Enugu North Makes Case For Okey Ezea
Enugu-North Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to other zones in the State to support the nomination of Barr. Okey Ezea for ministerial appointment.
Ezea was the 2015 governorship candidate of the party in Enugu State.
In a joint press briefing by six Local Government Chairmen of the APC in the Enugu-North senatorial zone on Monday, they regretted that in the last 16 years of democracy in Nigeria, the zone had not produced a Minister.
The Chairman of APC in the zone, Mr. Emecheta Ugwu said, “in the spirit of justice, equity and good governance, Enugu-North senatorial zone of Enugu State should be allowed to produce the
next minister.
“We elected Ezea as our nominee from the zone having polled 21 votes to beat other contenders in an election the committee conducted.
“We have been marginalized in the scheme of things. We have credible men and women from our area who are eminently qualified to be ministers.
“We control over fifty percent votes and population in the state. Justice can only be said to be done when unequals are treated equally. It has been a trend in Enugu State for ministers to
emerge from the zone where the governor emerged from. Our own should not be different.”
The APC chieftain further expressed dismay over the conduct of the party leaders after the just concluded elections, frowning at the acrimony generated by the disbursement of campaign funds.
He lamented that rather than concentrate on building a foothold for the party, its leaders had continued in blackmail, back-biting, and rumour peddling to pull the party down.
He quickly called on its leaders to close ranks and prepare for the December local government council elections which will provide APC the opportunity to field 277 candidates for the 260 wards and 17 council areas in the State.
Enugu North is popularly referred to as the Nsukka zone in the state.
The ruling party in the state, while recognising the imbalance in political office holding in the three senatorial zone, zoned it’s governorship position to Enugu North in the March 2015 general elections.
