kidnappers Pocket N50m Ransom, Free Kogi High Court Judge

Justice-Samuel-ObayomiA Kogi State High Court Judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi, who was abducted on May 25, has been released by the kidnappers.

This was after Obayomi had spent 34 days in their custody.

TheStreetReporters.com gathered that Obayomi was released around 11pm on Saturday at a bush in Okene area of the state, after a N50 million ransom had allegedly been paid by members of his family.

The money was said to have been handed over to the kidnappers on Thursday in Ogori Magongo area of the state also.

Samuel Ogunjemilusi, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, who confirmed the release of the judge, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lokoja that Obayomi was released on Saturday between 10pm and 11:30pm.

Ogunjemilusi, who could not say where and how the judge was released, or if any ransom was paid, however disclosed that the victim was yet to be released to his family, but had been taken to a safe place

Chief Judge of the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah, who also confirmed the release In a telephone interview with NAN, expressed gratitude to God.

“We thank God for his release but I cannot give you more information than you already have,” Ajanah said.

It would be recalled that Justice Obayomi, the resident High Court Judge of Ebogogo in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, was kidnapped on his way to the office on May 25, at about 8:45am by a three-member gang, all dressed in black.

The victim, whose police orderly, Corporal Usman Musa, was shot dead on the spot, was driven away in his Toyota Yaris car from the spot in GRA, Okene.

The abductors had demanded N150 million ransom for his release.

It would also be recalled that before his abduction, the Judge had just been discharged from the hospital, after three months on admission, following his involvement in a fatal automobile accident.
