Following his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari as the newly appointed Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, has assumed duty at the twin towers headquarters of the corporation in Abuja.
This was after a brief handover ceremony held at the NNPC Towers, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Until his appointment, Dr. Kachikwu was the Executive Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Exxon Mobil (Africa).
Kachikwu hails from Delta State and a First Class Graduate of Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He is a graduate of the Nigerian Law School, where he was best graduand and multiple awards winner in both Nigerian institutions.
He also has a Masters and Doctorate Degree in Law from Harvard Law School, USA, with distinctions.
A former investment attorney in the United States, the publisher of several magazine titles, has also taught Law at Harvard, Nigerian Law School and several globally acclaimed institutions.
He has three published Law books in Investment Law and Contracts and numerous articles in various Journals.
In his capacity as the Vice Chairman and General Counsel of ExxonMobil, he oversees the compliance programs of the company and advices on issues related to adherence with compliance regulations and anti-corruption laws in Africa.
Before he joined Mobil, he worked as General Counsel of Texaco Upstream and Downstream in Nigeria.
Kachikwu is said to be a workaholic and widely connected in the international community.
He was said to have been strongly recommended by the United States of America for the position.
A statement from the NNPC quoted the new GMD, speaking at the event, as expressing gratitude to his predecessor, Dr. Joseph Dawha, for his hard work in holding the corporation, while pledging to work assiduously in achieving President Muhammadu Buhari’s growth aspiration for the oil and gas industry.
