As candidates struggle for very few admission spaces available in Nigerian tertiary institutions ahead of a new academic session, over 22, 000 prospective candidates had chosen the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Not less than 17, 904 candidates of the 22,000 sat for the institution’s 2015/2016 post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME).

However, out of the almost 18,000 candidates jostling for for admission into AAUA, only 4,000 of them will be given admission by the institution.

This was a pathetic picture painted by the institution’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof Oluyemisi Adebowale, at a press briefing.

Adebowale revealed that “Over 22,000 candidates picked AAUA through JAMB, and 17, 904 candidates qualified for the post-UTME, but we are going to admit below 4,000.”

The post-UTME, which is a computer-based test, held on Monday and Tuesday last week.

Adebowale, who said AAUA’s extant merit-driven admission policy subsists, warned candidates to be wary of impostors who might want to extort money and other valuables from them as inducements for admission.

She said, “At the end of the test, we will collate all the results and go to the drawing board to decide the cut-off mark. Any candidate whose score falls within the required mark is automatically admitted. Candidates don’t need to know anybody. Our admission at AAUA is still
absolutely merit-driven.”
