Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Widow, HID Awolowo Dies At 99
The widow of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo (née Adelana), who was better known as HID Awolowo is dead.
Mama, as fondly called by many, died on Saturday at age 99.
She would have turned 100 on November 25 this year.
According to reports, the Yeye Oodua as she was popularly known, died shortly after a meeting on Saturday with her family members and was said to have been a part of the meeting for the planning of her 100th birthday that would have taken place in November.
Mrs. Awolowo achieved great fame and respect as a confidant of her late husband.
Mrs. Awolowo’s grand daughter is the wife of Nigeria’s current Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo.
HID was born to a modest family in the small Ikenne community of Ogun State in Nigeria.
She was married to politician Obafemi Awolowo from December 26, 1937 to his death in 1987.
