Written by Chukwudi Ogana
The Delta state Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal has affirmed the election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Labour Candidate in the April 11 gubernatorial election, Chief Great Ogboru had challenged the emergence of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as the Delta State Governor.
The tribunal which sat in Asaba, the state capital and headed by Justice Nasir Gunmi gave the ruling on Monday amidst speculations that Okowa’s supporters already knew what was coming and were jubilating on Sunday.
With this judgement by the tribunal, the All Progressives Congress candidate in the election, Olorogun O’tegha Emerhor, might also have his petition dismissed.
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ovwigho Igbuya has congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for emerging victorious at the Tribunal and also praised the judiciary for remaining the protector of the oppressed.
Speaking on the Tribunal’s judgement in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Henry Ebireri, in Asaba, the Speaker described the April 11 governorship election as the fairest and freest in the history of the state.
He commended Governor Okowa for running a transparent and accountable government and also placing the state on the world map for good, growth and development.
