Ireland Promises Commitment To Enugu’s Investment Drive

Irish-AmbassadorThe Irish Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Sean Hoy, has assured Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state of the readiness of his country, Ireland, to show visible commitment to advance the realization of the aims of the recent economic mission to the European country by a delegation of the State Government led by the Governor.

The State delegation to Ireland ended the mission last week and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dublin City University on various areas and levels of educational development that would be mutually beneficial to both parties to the agreement.

The Governor equally convened a top class investment summit where he x-rayed the Economic potentials of Enugu State to Irish people asking them to come and invest in a state that is ranked the safest in Nigeria presently.

While discussing his trip with the Irish Ambassador to Nigeria, the Governor said “we did discuss investment possibilities between Enugu State and Ireland. We were also in Dublin City University where we signed Memorandum of Understanding with them concerning Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT)”.

The Governor who was honoured with leadership award by the Irish citizens told his visitor that the award has challenged him to do more for the people of Enugu State, adding that Dublin citizens assured Enugu state of their willingness to invest in the State.

He equally stated that the state is working so hard to shore-up economically considering the present economic crunch plaguing the Nation. Ambassador Sean who stated that this is his third visit to Enugu State in his one and a half years stay in the country said that Governor Ugwuanyi has won the hearts of Irish citizens, adding that they are working hard to make this first investment step fruitful. He equally said that Ireland has great investment interest in Nigeria.

He also said that part of what brought him to Enugu is the death of one the Irish missionary priests, Fr. Charles Nuel whose remains will be committed to mother earth at Nsukka tomorrow stressing that the father had served humanity with all dedication. “I am also here to celebrate the life of one the Irish missionary priests. Fr. Charles Nuel. He would be buried in Nsukka, Enugu State tomorrow. I will attend his funeral and it was his wish to be laid to rest here upon death” he stated.
