Why I Wrote “Effects Of Terrorism On Children” – Little Miss Splendour Joe King
A 10-year-old schoolgirl, Miss Splendour Joe King has given reasons why she ventured into writing a book on terrorism.
The little girl, whose book titled: “Effects of Terrorism on Children”, was presented at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, Tuesday, said she was inspired to write the book because when a child is change, a whole generation is changed.
In her words, “My inspiration for writing this book came from my passion for children, especially those of them who are victims of terrorism.
“I therefore thought that I will be fair to my fellow children, born and yet unborn, by seizing this opportunity to write this book for their study and reference material.
“My second reason is that when we change a child today, a generation would be changed, since those who became terrorists today were once children like us.
“I strongly believe that permanent record like this could serve as a good source of information for children education in the future”.
She then urged the government at all levels to address the root causes of terrorism, which she identified as injustice, unemployment, poverty, inadequate education on the dangers of terrorism.
Speaking at the event, the Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on legal matters, Prof. Adamu Kyuka Usman noted that the author deserves the support of all Nigerians, saying she has done well.
The mother of the little author, Mrs. Vera Joe King, in a chat with newsmen, disclosed that she when she discovered the talent in her daughter, she made up her mind to encourage and support her.
Present at the Presentation of the book were Senators, diplomats, and well meaning Nigerians, including the publisher of Leadership Newspaper, Sam Nda Isaiah, Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoba, the Acting Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), among others.
