Saraki’s Trail Resumes At Code of Conduct Tribunal, Adjourned

The case against Senate President, Dr. Bukola Abubakar Saraki resumed for hearing at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday after the judgement of Supreme Court upholding the competence of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to entertain the matter.

At the resumed session in Abuja, the prosecution counsel led by the Rotimi Jacob (SAN), addressed the Court that the matter was to come up yesterday, the 10the of March; the Counsel to the Defence, Chief Kanu Godwin Agabi (SAN) copied him a letter on 26th February, demanding for the arraignment today, and he affirmed his readiness for the case to commence.

He said his witnesses are ready to testify.

On his part, the Defence Counsel led by Chief Kanu Godwin Agabi (SAN), stated that he has filed a preliminary objection before the Tribunal which was served at the Federal Ministry of Justice which should be heard and ruled upon, before proceeding with the substantive matter.

The prosecuting counsel, Mr. Jacob (SAN) contended that similar efforts were made by the defence counsel to scuttle the trial by filing motions, yet the accused go about granting press conferences that he is being persecuted not prosecuted.

He added that already, the Supreme Court has dealt with the matter and he urged the Tribunal to quash the motion and allow the case to proceed.

After heated debate between the counsels, it was later agreed that the matter to be adjourned at the instance of the CCT Chairman, Hon Danladi Yakubu Umar on March 18, 2016.
