Alleged Murder: Court Orders Remand of 2 Nigeriens

An Ebute-metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, has ordered the remand of two Niger nationals, Amid Sumata, 42; and Ali Idris, 40, in prisons custody, over alleged killing of a 60 year-old woman, late Alhaja Silifat Isiaq, their employer.

 

The two Nigeriens, were security guards, to late Alhaja Isiaq, alleged have hacked tbe deceased to death with a matchet, at her residence, at Plot 25, Federal Sites and Services, Satellite Town, in Lagos State, on April 8, at about 2. 40 p.m.

 

The duo, were brought to court the men of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of Lagos State Police Command, Panti-Yaba, on Wednesday, for remand pending when Investigation will be concluded on their alleged heinous act.

In the charge sheet attached with the remand application, the two accused persons are to face a two-count charge bordering on  conspiracy and murder.

 

The offences according to the prosecutor, Sergeant Daniel Ighodalo are contrary to and punishable under Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

 

Sergeant Ighodalo, while urging the court to grant the remand application, did stated that the the two Niger citizens, in a bid to cover up their alleged heinous act, after hacking the deceased to death, by cutting her with a cutlass all over her face, dumped her lifeless body into a nearby drum (container).

Ighodalo also informed the court that the accused after allegedly hacking the deceased to death,  carted away some her valuable items, which includes jewelry and some cashes.

 

Ighodalo alleged that the duo, who are security guards with did  entered into the deceased’s main building with intent to ransack and make away with valuables in the house.

 

He said: “In a bid to cover their tracks, they hacked the deceased to death with a cutlass all over her face before dumping her body into a nearby drum and made away with all they could lay their hands on”.

 

Sergeant Ighodalo said the remand application was brought pursuant to section 264(1) of Administration of Criminal Justice of Laws of Lagos State of 2011. He therefore urged the court to grant the application to enable the Office of Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) to issue an advice on the alleged Act.

Consequently, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Abimbola Awogboro (Miss) while granting the police remand application, ordered that the two accused persons be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons custody pending a legal advice from the Office of Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

 

Awogboro also ordered the police to Duplicate the case file and forward same to DPP for the advice,  while adjourned the case to June 20. http://thestreetreporters.com/?=5783
