Abakpa-Emene Link Road: Enugu MoW&I Mobilises Contractors Back to Site
The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure (MoW&I) has explained that the flood scour-out at Abakpa Nike-Umuchigbo-Harmony Estate-Adoration Pilgrimage Centre – Emene link road, which “evidently resulted in some wash out at two locations on the asphalted pavement wearing course and lined drainage”, was caused by indiscriminate dumping of refuse and debris in the drains.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner, Engr. Greg Nnaji, the works and infrastructure ministry maintained that it “had taken into cognisance the forest vegetation of the landscape and provided adequately for the hydraulic structures”.
While commending the Umuchigbo community for “their swift reaction in setting up a taskforce to monitor & bring offenders to book”, Engr. Nnaji disclosed that the ministry has “directed the contractors back to site for immediate remediation”.
The Street Reporters Newspaper reports that the commissioner also encouraged Emene community to set up the same taskforce to protect and avert indiscriminate blockage of the drainages with refuse and debris.
“We sincerely appreciate the support of Ndi Enugu in our drive towards the provision of sustainable infrastructure.
“The carriage way is very safe to both motorists & pedestrians as we urge all to go about their normal business”, he assured.
