RevolutionNow: DSS Rearrests Bakare, 2 Others in Osogbo as Lagos Protester Speaks from Detention
A year after his earlier arrest and long incarceration in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Convener of #RevolutionNow in Osun State, Olawale Bakare, has been rearrested by operatives of the DSS in Oshogbo the state capital.
Bakare, a human rights activist, pro-democracy campaigner, and a former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore were on August 4, 2019 arrested ahead of similar protest which took place in Lagos, Abuja, Osun and other parts of the country, leading to arraignment in court.
Olawale Bakare, on Wednesday, alongside other members of the RevolutionNow Movement converged at the popular Olaiya junction in Osogbo to stage a similar protest against bad governance, lack of infrastructure, extra judicial activities, among others ills.
The protesters had addressed the police officers at the scene on their mission.
A yet-to-be identified member of the RevolutionNow protesters was addressing security agents and onlookers before they were abruptly swooped on by the DSS operatives with Bakare and two others were arrested, while others fled the scene.
Meanwhile, a #RevolutionNow protester in Lagos, who was arrested alongside Agba Jalingo and 17 others on Wednesday, informed journalists from police detention facilities in Area “F” Police Command Ikeja, Lagos State, that they were arrested on their way home from the protest.
According to the information gathered from Comrade Akinnubi Adetolu Emmanuel, they “were pursued along Oshodi Express, we were pursued until we were arrested.
“Policemen were coming from the front and the back. The policemen blocked our vehicle and arrested us and took us to Area “F” Police station.
“19 of us were arrested and we are presently there now”, he said.
