EXCLUSIVE: More Trouble for Akpabio, Indicted NDDC C’ttee Members as CNPP Rallies Civil Society Groups
There is in the offing, a strong civil society media advocacy, which may involve a protracted civil disobedience as the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) rallies stakeholders and political activists to take united decision on the fate of the Minister of Nigeria Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the indicted members of the Professor Keme Pondei-led Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The Street Reporters Newspaper exclusively gathered that there has been ongoing consultations spearheaded by the CNPP Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu and the Secretary of a civil society coalition, Alhaji Comrade Tijani Abdul, who were said to have been holding series consultation meetings with civil society leaders across the country.
It was gathered that the CNPP and the leaders of the civil society coalition as well as other political activists have met in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, in Kaduna, the Kaduna State capital and a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday in Lagos State.
A member of the steering committee of the central planning committee of the coalition, who didn’t want to be named because he was not authorised to speak, told The Street Reporters Newspaper that the coalition is unhappy with the handling of the corruption allegations against the NDDC and how the Minister has been able to “manipulate Nigerians to see the National Assembly as the house of thieves and divert attention from his involvement in the NDDC corruption saga.
“If you watch, Senator Akpabio is working very hard to turn himself into the hero of the game and have continued to point at the lawmakers.
“Recall that the President had only in May, 2020 extended the tenure of the Professor Keme Pondei-led Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from May 1 to December 31, 2020. How did it happen? Someone worked it out.
“NDDC was without a Board in the period under investigation. Who stood in place of the Board?
“Also, when you look at the hurry with which new members of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was announced amid the probe, you will know that something is wrong somewhere.
“How can the Minister of Niger Delta ministry, who was the NDDC Board at the time be exonerated when the NDDC was under his direct supervision?”, the source queried.
