…Describes Obi of Onitsha as Face of Royalty in Igbo Land
The 100 Anambra Achievers Team has rejoiced with HRM. Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe (Agbogidi) CFR, the Obi of Onitsha on his 19th Ofala celebration, describing him as a traditional ruler with class and true custodian of Igbo culture, tradition and a perfect description of the cordiality that exist between modernity and traditionalism.
In a press release issued by Barr. Lizzy Anyaonu, the group extolled the leadership qualities of the royal father whose tenure has been marked by peace and massive development in the trading city.
They praised him for the manner with which he has galvanized Onitsha indigenes in Anambra State and even the entire Igbo people to take pride in their culture.
“Prior to his ascendancy, Onitsha was almost becoming a byword for anything that is negative and it would appear nobody would be able to salvage the decaying city, but Achebe’s golden years as the traditional ruler of Onitsha has brought sanity and changed the gory narrative about the city.
His image looms so large and from what we have seen going on, Onitsha is beginning to take its pride of place” the group said.
Commending him further, the group showered encomium on the royal father for the way he has brought great respect to the traditional institution and Onitsha royal stool through his enviable leadership, showcasing of Igbo culture to the outside world; his support for all that is just and how he has led Anambra traditional rulers in an association devoid of rancour and bitterness.
They expressed satisfaction on the record of his visible achievements so far, particularly the abolition of obnoxious traditional practices and liberalizing some cultural practices to suit the dictates of modern time, which other traditional rulers have adopted in their various communities.
The group thanked the Obi of Onitsha for his continued support to successive governments through wise counsel and for sustaining and raising standard of cultural practices in Igbo land.
The Street Reporters Newspaper reports that the100 Achievers Team prayed God to make his reign long and peaceful.
