Bayo Ademodi: We’ve Lost Our Dream Actualiser – AWA Bamiji

A political activist, Comrade AWA Bamiji has described the death of an Afenifere leader, Professor Bayo Ademodi as yet another sad blow in Yoruba land in the outgoing year, saying that the Odua nation has lost a dream actualiser.

Comrade Bamiji who is the President of the Bola Ige Centre For Justice said the demise of Prof Ademodi was a very tragic development in Ondo State noted that the late leader of Afenifere Egbe Ilosiwaju Yoruba in Ondo State and was a member of the National Central Working Committee of the group.

He said, “in July 27, 2020, I lost my closest political leader and mentor, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, who took my mentoship up from where Chief Bola Ige left it in 2001, and now our erstwhile Staff Adviser, confidant and political leader in OAU, Ile-Ife, Prof Bayo Ademodi, who was our intermidiary.

“He brought us together and Odu’a Nation felt the impacts of Afenifere Leadership greatly for 2 good decades.

“Imagine these double tragedies that happened in this same year for the Yoruba Nation in general but for AWA Bamiji in particular.

“I am sad!”, Comrade Bamiji lamented.

Prof Bayo Ademodi was born on 10th March, 1952 to the Ademodi family in Ondo City.  

He studied at the Howard University, Washington DC, USA; the Pennsylvania State University, USA and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife in 1988.

He held a BSc, MSc and Ph.D in Chemical Engineering and was a COREN registered engineer; member, American Society of Chemical Engineers; member, Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers; member, Society of Petroleum Engineers; member, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society, USA, and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

He was a renowned research fellow and produced over two dozen research publications.

Prof. Ademodi as a politician was a National Delegate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD); Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was appointed Special Adviser to Sen. Ayo Fasanmi of AD in 1999 to 2003; Special Adviser on Bitumen and Solid Mineral to the Ondo State Governor (2003); Leader, Alliance for Democracy and Action Congress in Ondo West/Ondo East Federal Constituency from 2004 to 2007.       

He was until his death the Commissioner, Ministry of Integration & Special duties, Ondo State.
