The immediate past Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Honourable Emmanuel Egbabor has urged politicians to always put their trust in God if they are to succeed in politics.

Egbabor disclosed this on Wednesday at the end of tenure thanksgiving service held at the Council pavilion, Ozoro.

He said he was grateful to God to have been the first Isoko North Council Chairman to serve for two terms of six years back to back.
He urged politicians and well-wishers to always look up to God in everything they do especially in their political aspirations.

He noted that only God can put someone in a position of authority as he tried effortlessly in the past to gain political ascendancy until he was sworn in as Chairman in October 2014.

He said power belongs to God and only He can give power referring to John 3:27.

“Today am excited and happy that am exiting as Chairman with my two legs complete, being alive and I can see clearly with my two eyes and all my children are complete.

“For keeping me for six years as Chairman of the Council is a thing of joy because not everyone that started this race completed it. What I have enjoyed in the past six years is just the grace of God.

“It was God who brought me into this position, my joining politics dates back to many years ago when I showed interest in contesting for Councillor under the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1991.

“I aspired for the House of Assembly in 2006 and 2011 until God made me victorius in 2014 as Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council,” Egbabor said.

He appreciated Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his support to his administration and called on the people of the area to continue to pray for him, his family and the state.

“I must thank all my leaders including Rt Hon Leo Ogor and Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay among others whom God used to put me in the position and i must specially thank our amiable Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, he has been there for me as a father, mentor and leader.

“To all my friends and political associates, let me admonish you to always look up to God if you want to succeed as a politician.

“People used to say that there is no way a politician can make it without relying on other powers, but I told them I will be a politician without stepping my foot elsewhere aside God.

“Today we are leaving debt free, we were able to clear the seven months salary arrears in 2018 through the assistance of the Governor.

“We thought we could do better in this second term but the issues of recession, COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown and ENDSARS protests came in to thwart our plans.

“But despite these challenges we were able to touch lives in the various communities by resolving all notty issues within our communities,”

He said that he is leaving Isoko North as one of the most peaceful and secured local government area in the state which to him is remarkable.

He stated that his administration, rehabilitated and graded roads across the local government area, renovated abbatoirs in Ozoro, Owhelogbo and built markets in Ozoro, Ofagbe, renovated markets in Otibio and Owhelogbo.

“We had free eye treatment and surgery in 2015 and 2017 for the first and second phases. I am happy because God has used us to touch lives, to heal people where a young girl of 17 years old who had lost her sight from birth received her sight in 2015.

“We have paid salaries up to date, we built Akperio market and the first ever permanent health centre in Ozoro with 30 beds, delivery room, and consulting rooms, drug and laboratory room among others. Am happy that this has been brought to fruition because it will help to reduce pressure on the General Hospital Ozoro,” the Chairman stated.

He cautioned indigenes to desist from destroying public buildings as the community remains the actual beneficiaries of the projects.

In a brief exhortation, Bishop Dr Sam Oyede of God’s Fountain of Life Bible Church Oleh urged Christians to thank God for being counted among the living.

He said it was God who kept Nigerians alive despite the COVID-19 pandemic and urged the people to always give thanks to God for all his benefits.

He stated that thanksgiving was an opportunity to recount all that God has done in the life of everyone.

“Today we are here to appreciate God in thanksgiving for where he has brought the out-going Chairman and us to where we are today.

“You are not here to thank God for this invitation, you are here to thank God because you are alive,” Bishop Oyede stated.

The thanksgiving service was attended by his Isoko South counterpart Hon. Itiako Ikpokpo, member representing Isoko South 1 Constituency Hon. Kenneth Ogba among other dignitaries from Isoko nation.
