The Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has, on Wednesday, paid a visit to the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kolo Kyari at the NNPC corporate headquarters, Abuja.
The meeting was a follow-up to the earlier one held by the two leaders late last year.
Top on the agenda were the issues of the frontier oil exploration activities in Kolmani, the commencement of work at the 200-bed capacity hospital and diagÂnostics centre in Gombe by the NNPC and the automotive biofuels project in Gombe state being anchored by the corporation’s Renewable Energy Division.
Recall that Governor Inuwa Yahaya has been in the forefront in mounting pressure on the NNPC and the DPR to show deep zeal on the exploitation of oil and gas deposit that is available in Gombe and the wider Gongola basin in order to trigger more economic activities and also ensure that Gombe joins the league of oil producing states in the country after the discovery of hydrocarbon deposits in commercial quantity.
It may be recalled also that a team from the NNPC, led by the Group General Manager, Renewable Energy Division, Dr. Bala David Ture had visited the designated areas for sugarcane fuel ethanol project at Malleri and Kupto in Kwami and funakaye local government areas respectively.
At a debriefing meeting with the NNPC team in Gombe, Governor Inuwa Yahaya had emphasized that his administration will spare no effort in taking advantage of the renewable energy plan of the NNPC, which is designed to boost alternative power supply and biofuel source in the country.
During the meeting with the NNPC boss, Governor Yahaya received a draft memorandum of understanding on the ethanol biofuel project for possible review and consideration preparatory to the signing of the MoU between Gombe state government and the NNPC.
The Governor was accompanied on the visit to the NNPC towers by the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Pavilion Petroleum Limited, Mohammed Madugu.
