Marking the 15th anniversary of the demise of Dr Beko Ransome-Kuti on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the Beko Ransome-Kuti memorial Committee has said the country he fought for to institute its democracy is still not at peace.
Insisting that his legacies still live on, the group in a statement signed by its Secretary, Comrade Awa Bamiji quoted late Beko Ransome-Kuti as saying, “the kind of People we have in power today are very ruthless People who care less about the ordinary Citizen…we must struggle to take our right place”.
Comrade Awa Bamiji noted that “15th year after death but we, his class of teeming followers, bulk of which are Nigerian Youths and Students, are not happy at all with the security situation in Nigeria.
“He and his close Coallegues in the Civil Society Organisations, like Prof Wole Soyinka, Chief Anthony Enahoro; Senator Abraham Adesanya; Chief Bola Ige; Alhaji Balarabe Musa; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Chief Bisi Akande; General Alani Akinrinade (Rtd); Aremo Segun Osoba; Comrade Ola Oni; Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN; Senator Biyi Durojaiye; Barrister Aka Bashorun, SAN; Barrister Femi Falana, SAN; Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu; Comrade Alfred Ilenre; Baba Omojola, Comrade Ayo Oladokun and several others in conjunction with with us, the foot Soldiers, fought the military Juntas to standstill for the Nation to have its democracy in 1999 but surely, 22 years after, this is not Nigeria of our collective dream.
“It is on the note, we are calling on the Federal Government to honour Dr Beko Ransome Kuti and notable others in the Nigerian Civil Society Organisations, that have left this sinful World by stemming the tide of insecurity in the Land.
“This is the only way in which it can regain its dwindling image before the Nigerian masses.
“We, their ardent Supporters, will not rest on our Oars untill the dreams of these Heroes of Democracy are actualised”, the Beko Ransome- Kuti memorial Committee stated.
