The National Association of Seadogs NAS, is holding a public lecture to reflect on the illegal arrest and detention of Pyrates by the Abacha regime in 1997, as well as Nigeria’s poor human rights records especially as it relates to illegal arrests and detentions.
It is estimated that up to 75 percent of persons currently in Nigeria’s custodial facilities are awaiting trial. Nigeria’s prisons especially, hold a large number of innocent people who have never been convicted of a crime.
The public lecture is also expected to commence work towards developing and sponsoring a bill through the NAS Center.
A keynote presentation will be delivered by Citizen Agba Jalingo, at the event holding in Port Harcourt on Wednesday February 18, 2021.
