Delta Assembly Holds Public Hearing On Varsity Bills

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed delight with the turnout of stakeholders at the commencement of public hearing on the Bill for a Law upgrading three higher institutions in the state to full fledged universities.

The stakeholders in the educational sector, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Faith-based Organisations, Delta State University Community and the general public attended the Public Hearing of the Bill for a Law upgrading College of Education Agbor; Delta State University, Anwai Campus and Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro to full-fledged universities in spite of the short notice for the Public hearing.

Declaring the public hearing open on Friday, the Speaker said that ; “Your presence has rekindled my hope for the educational subsector in our dear state. I want to specially thank all of you for finding time to be part of this Public Hearing”.

While appreciating their presence, Oborevwori urged them to be actively involved in the conversation as all and sundry will be imparted one way or the other by its outcome.

According to him: “With the benefit of hindsight, His Excellency, the Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has sent these bills to the House for stamp of authority”.

“This Public Hearing therefore, is to enable stakeholders make their contributions and inputs in the spirit of inclusiveness. Your views, opinions and contributions will be treated with the respect they deserve”, he said.

The Speaker said he expected it to be robust deliberations from all the stakeholders present.

He said that; “I wish to state that this is a worthwhile venture and we should all be involved. Arising from the foregoing, I hereby declare this public hearing open and wish you all fruitful deliberations.”
