Katsina State Government Partners SON on Development of MSMEs

Katsina State Government has signed a Memorundum of understanding (MoU) with the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) for the Development of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in the State.

The State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, signed the MoU on behalf of Katsina state Government while the SON Director General, Malam Faruq Sulaiman, signed on behalf of his organization.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor said signing of the MoU followed a visit by the Katsina state delegation under the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Council to the SON Headquarters in Abuja.

Alhaji Yakubu added that, part of the request forwarded to the Standard Organization of Nigeria by the state include establishment of Certification Centre and sensitization to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises on how to make their products and services up to standard.

He equally spoke on the effort made by Katsina state Government towards achieving success which according to him include identification of priority products, Capacity building to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises and provision of land to the Standard Organization of Nigeria for the construction of office and laboratory among others.

In his response, the Director General Standard Organization of Nigeria, Mallam Faruq Sulaiman, said the MoU was aimed at facilitating training and awareness Programmes to build capacity in the area of standards development, application, quality assurance and conformity assessment as enshrined in Standard Organization’s mandate.

Highlights of the occasion include presentation of an offer for the piece of land to the Standard Organization of Nigeria and signing of M.O.U among others.
