Sokoto to Conduct Local Government Election on March 27

All is set for the conduct of local government election in Sokoto come Saturday the 27 March 2021.

Alhaji Nasiru Yahaya Isa, Secretary of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) disclosed this to Newsmen in his office.

According to him, the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has made adequate provision for financial cost, to conduct the election.

Alhaji Isa has appealed to the parties that are participating in the election to go out and campaign vigorously,” you want to serve the people, go out and talk to them, tell them why you want to serve them.

Nigerians do not know the work of a councilor, chairman and other elected officials, all they usually ask is what have you given to me, instead of asking for quality representation, indirectly they are corrupting them”, he added.

On the issue of Security, he noted that immediately the Governor sworn in the New Commission Members, the chairman and members of the commission visited all the security Agencies in the state to solicit for their support and they promised to give him the support necessary.

The Assistant Inspector General (AIG), in charge of the zone has assured us that if the need arises, he can mobilize police from either Zamfara, Katsina or Kebbi to Sokoto so that there will be adequate security for the movement of the election materials to the polling units and back to the State here.”

However,on the allegation by the opposition All progressive Congress (APC) in the state that members of the commission are card-carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the secretary explained that the Chairman of the commission is a retired Banker, who is not even a registered voter, nothing that other members of the commission are men of proven intergrity in various Fields of endeavor.

He debunked the insinuations, saying it is not true, promising that the local government Election will be free, fair, transparent and credible.
