The State Project Coordinator of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) Barrister Ladi Jatto has said the project is not only addressing Erosion but attends to basic challenges associated with developing nation under the climate change component of the project objectives.
Barrister Jatto stated this in an interview with newsmen in Lokoja.
She noted that NEWMAP has gone beyond erosion and ecological problems and has extended its intervention towards providing basic needs of life to communities in the state.
In her words, “NEWMAP is not only addressing the selected erosion problems in the state. We are also looking at people, the vulnerable in the communities.
“Those that do not have access to basic necessities of life. They depend on land and what it produces to survive.
“They cut down trees for domestic use, they have to trek a distance to get water.
“His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello came up with an idea of how to sustain those communities without light, portable water and other basic necessities of life”.
According to her, about six communities across the three Senatorial Districts of the state have been provided with Solar lights, boreholes and solar powered garri processing factory and other amenities to make life comfortable for them.
She urged the people of the state to be more environmentally friendly and maintain the facilities, drainages provided for them by the State government.
She urged the people of the state to be supportive of the presidential ambition of Governor Yahaya Bello whom she described as a pragmatic and dynamic leader with with great potentials to take the country to the next level of development.
