Yoruba youths under the aegis of the Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba (that is the Grand Council of Yoruba Youths) have cautioned the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to properly manage increasing revenue to the country following the rise of crude oil prices to all-time high in three months.

The group also distanced itself from planned events to commemorate the first anniversary of the famous #EndSARS protests that rocked the country last year when young people demanded an end to police brutality and bad governance in the country.

In a statement signed by the Aare Apapo (President-General) of the group, Comrade AWA Bamiji, the Yoruba youths said “it is a thing of joy for us in Nigeria to know that in the midst of various security challenges and ailing economy, for the first time in three years, the price of crude Oil hits the highest $85 per barrel.”

The rest of the statement reads: “The interpretation of this means God has listened to our prayers as a vulnerable Nation and the impact of this increased revenue would be most appreciated, if properly managed by the 3 tiers of Government.

“As Nigeria Police is seriously warning against staging a Protest to commemorate a year Anniversary of the #EndSARS Protest, it is logical for the Organiser of the planned Protest to think of the possibility of unscrupulous elements hijacking it, leading to anarchy as it happened last year’s October across the States of the Federation and we are yet to get over the economic setback, loss of lives and tension experienced by the Country.

“Individual or Group has the right to protest but the exercise of this right must be within the ambit of the law and it should not violate the right of other people in the Community.

“It is time to celebrate our 2 notable Traditional Rulers in Yorubaland and famous Prince of Lagos, Lagos State, on their Birthday’s Anniversaries.

“The Chairman, Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and our newly unveiled “Baba Isale Odo Odu’a” Ori – Olokun Odu’a Awardee, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi @ 85, when we think of how far you have impacted on the lives of various Groups and individuals across the Yorubaland, we must have a tangible reason to thank God for your long life and coveted achievements.

“The fact that our over 2 decades of mentorship under your tutelage were full of events, couldn’t be overemphasized.

“We congratulate our leading Traditional Rulers in Yorubaland and the Custodians of Yoruba Culture and Heritage, Their Imperial Majesties, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, JP, LLD, CFR, Alaafin of Oyo @ 85 and Arole Odu’a, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife @ 47. We thank God for your individual lives for bringing tremendous progress and development to Yorubaland during your individual reigns as present Monarchs in Oyo and Ile – Ife respectively.
