The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Enugu State chapter, has uncovered plot to form a parallel structure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Enugu State, describing it as “a clandestine and unhealthy development”.
In a statement jointly signed by the State chapter Chairman, Hon. Afam Ani JP, and the Secretary, Aduaka Anthony, the CNPP said “the development, we are aware is the springing up of a parallel PDP. Members of this splinter group are coerced into filling their membership forms with their PVC numbers inserted. This to us is a strange precedence.
“The CNPP Enugu State chapter is aware that this is the handiwork of some mischievous and disgruntled politicians who wants to grab the Enugu State governorship ticket by fair or foul means come 2023 by creating confusion and hence bring the State in a state of chaos.
“They have always plotted power retention but forget that their years of holding the reigns of political power has not translated into something meaningful to the people. They forget that power exerts its moral comparatives on its holder.
“CNPP Enugu State chapter is asking “why”. This is a clandestine move to subvert the genuine mandate of Enugu State people come 2023.
“It’s all aimed at the primary election. But why? There are a million strings to the word, why? How did these politicians get to this depth of frustration? Enugu State cannot lose it at this time because of the frustration and over vaulting ambition of some few persons in the state who want to remain in power ad- infinitum”, the umbrella association of all registered political parties and political associations in the state stated.
CNPP Enugu State chapter then maintained that it “will not fold their hands and see Enugu State bleed as it is on record that it has been the most peaceful State in South East and Nigeria in general. We will not give room to those who want to use Enugu State to massage their dented ego as the present move by these Political marabouts will be resisted.
“We need to caution that the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) Enugu State chapter will not fold its hands and watch a group of people destroy the peace in Enugu State.
“We are in full solidarity with the present leadership of PDP and structure in Enugu State and stand for free and fair primary which will in turn bring a fair and credible election in the state. Anything short of this MUST be resisted by CNPP Enugu State chapter both in law court and/ or by public protest.
“We advise all the mischief makers to retrace their nocturnal moves and follow due process in pursuing their goals and not by cutting corners”, the statement concluded.
