Why DSS Arrested General Idris Bello Dambazau – Sources Reveal

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the Chairman of the Kano state Consumer Protection Council, General Idris Bello Dambazau (Rtd).

According to media reports, he was taken into custody on Sunday for alleged “economic sabotage.”

Sources in the know of the development said the retired General was picked up for unilaterally shutting down seven filling stations in total violations of due process.

The source explained that General Idris Dambazau’s action was outside the mandate of his Agency.

It was gathered that concerted effort to make him see reasons fell on deaf ears.

“General Dambazau’s action was illegal and a distant pole from the powers conferred on
Consumer Protection Council.

“General Dambazau actions was an attempt to create scarcity in Kano where there was none, and we view this singular act as economics sabotage”, media sources quoted an impeccable source at the Nigeria’s secret police.

The DSS source revealed further that section 48 of the Nigeria Constitution clearly abhors interference with the Mainstream or Downstream Petroleum Operations by any Government Ministry, Department or Agency, exercising power or function or taking any action impacting on the sector, without first consulting with relevant authority.

The source added that “General Dambazau failed to comply to the section prior to issuing any regulations, guidelines, enforcement order or directives”.

The DSS said “even after consulting with the relevant authority, the authority shall review the recommendations of the Government Ministry, Department or Agency and communicate decisions accordingly.”
