Resounding Defeat Of APC In FCT Council Polls Wake-up Call – APC Presidential Aspirant, Jideofo-Ogbuagu
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and an aspirant for the office of the President of Nigeria, Dr. Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu has said that the victory of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last Saturday’s Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, was long foretold and should sound as a wake-up call for the APC leadership.
In his reaction to the outcome of the area council polls, which saw the ruling APC lose the most coveted area council in the FCT, the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), to the PDP, Dr. Jideofo-Ogbuagu lamented that arrogance on the part of party leaders will not help the APC.
For political watchers, AMAC is strategic for any political party as it hosts the Presidential Villa and major federal government offices in the FCT.
The PDP also won Bwari and Kuje Area Council chairmanship while the APC was declared winner in Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji Area Councils.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, had claimed in media reports that the party won all the chairmanship elections in the FCT, vowing that the PDP will contest APC’s victory in the three area councils the party lost.
According to Dr. Jideofo-Ogbuagu, the “resounding defeat” of the APC will be worse in future if the party continues “taking party members and Nigerian citizenry for granted”.
In his words, “Some of us APC members who have often expressed our unhappiness with glaring lapses in APC as a party and in governments controlled by APC (including FCT Administration and Abuja Area Council administrations), are the true lovers of APC who wish the party well.
“APC leaders in party administration and government must start today to do only things that genuine APC members and Nigerians generally will applaud.
“Being cocky (arrogant) and defensive in that party or government office cannot help our party in future elections.
“Taking party members and Nigerian citizenry for granted can only spell more electoral defeats”, the APC chieftain warned.
