National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), has said it will establish Zonal Headquarters in Enugu.

The NCCSALW National Coordinator, Major General Abba Dikko (Rtd), notified Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State of the plan when he led a delegation of the Centre to the Government House, Enugu, on an official visit to the governor, on Tuesday.

The Executive bill for the establishment of the Centre was introduced in September 2021 and it is domiciled in the office of the National Security Adviser.

President Muhammadu Buhari approved the establishment of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) to replace the defunct Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons.

It is to serve as the institutional mechanism for policy guidance, research, and monitoring of all aspects of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in Nigeria.

The establishment is part of the ongoing restructuring of Nigeria’s security architecture to address emerging threats and strengthen the regional mechanism for the control, prevention, and regulation of SALW.

The Centre is to maintain international cooperation and also operate zonal offices in the Six Geopolitical Zones to ensure quick response and effective mobilization of resources.

President Buhari earlier in August 2020 approved the establishment of the center before the executive bill was formerly transmitted to the National Assembly in 2021.
