“I live beyond petty bickering and I’ll heartedness.”
By Obi Ojage
The position of National Publicity Secretary of our great party the APC today unlike other offices at the national level of the party requires someone who is entrenched in the party with proven ability, agility and something to show for being competent in that field to handle such office and not based on where the person hails from, or the outcome of political juggling in favour of he who has the most connection or one belonging to a political bloc or alignments within the party.
The few articles I had chunked out recently on various social media platforms and the internet were meant to put to rest the fidgeting of all those who expressed doubts and their sinister intrusion over my positive contributions to the growth of the party over time in the areas of public enlightenment and sensitisation where I have comparative advantage with the capability of handling the Office of National Publicity Secretary of our great party effectively to which I now seek in the forthcoming National Convention of the party.
I do so because I have worked assiduously hard within the tenure of the current president so far without any form of acknowledgement even for once by those who were supposed to do so at the presidency especially those in charge of laundering the President’s image which is what I am known to have been engaged in doing consistently using my resources and platform thanklessly for the sake of the party.
I had expected the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who must have been reading my articles sent to him always through his WhatsApp account and Chief Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity if not for their bias just because I am not Yoruba, to have both commended me in public or private, on my modest efforts in full support of this government or insist on encouraging my being compensated anyway possible like it is usually the case with political parties in control of government to those who have exhibited uncommon feat like I do in its support and growth.
In its stead, those who are presently saddled with the responsibility of making decisions including my cross river brothers at the helm of affairs, on those to man certain vital party positions at the national level especially publicity or image making which represents a very crucial aspect in partisan politics unfortunately prefer those who have been abusing the president openly and unconscionably hoping they would have a change of heart especially those from the Yoruba extraction in the case of our party the APC against those like me who at every occasion, takes delight in speaking vehemently in defence of the president.
This I surmised is because most of these persons are themselves grossly deficient in morals and as such they prefer decadence to decency and do not realise the spiritual content of what makes up a President.
A lot goes into the making of the president of a country spiritually. For me in particular, that’s what informs my drive for doing what I do beside the benefits attached thereto.
It gives me pleasure as long as I am in politics to be on the side of my president more especially the current president Mohammadu Buhari for his exemplariness and by upholding the truth than glorifying evil in whatever guise or join to malign the name of the president as a columnist for the sake of what I will get in return for such illicit affairs.
All those privileged who are juggling around in APC with names of their preferred candidates assuming to be well connected or those they believe would do their biddings thereby scuttling the chances of those who truly merit certain positions or those who are credible enough and have displayed undiluted commitments to work for the growth of the party, are on the dark side of Nigerian politics unknown to them.
They want to commandeer everything available claiming to be in charge of affairs today, but do not know what the future holds for Nigeria neither can they foretell the outcome of their excessive dribbling and acting smart over what should be obvious to every observer whether in or out of the party who subscribes to justice and fair play.
These persons and their cliques seems to have eclipse the current president in the process and are so disrespectful to him in many of their actions pretending they’re loyal.
They’ve created a lot of tension within the presidency and around the president such that the man is no more comfortable nor interested in anymore thing but to finish his tenure and go home, have his peace haven’t done his best, and rest.
A few people now determine who gets what and not based on merits or inputs but who these persons want.
Which is why names like that of Femi Fani-Kayode who’ve been abusing the president and deriding the party resonates and still finds its way shamelessly into position of recognition as deputy chairman of publicity sub committee put together recently to oversee activities during the forthcoming National Convention of the party sponsored by vampireous individuals who now exerts undue influence on the party in support of idiocy, for one who barely joined the party and whose defection from the PDP into APC recently was welcomed with rejection by a preponderance of party faithfuls, is indeed preposterous and shows how insensitive these persons are to constant public outcry to embrace decency in all our actions in the position of leadership.
They have virtually made nonsense of all the right values President Buhari stood for that made him a Cynosure of all eyes for which many noble men and women of character and good conscience including my humble self rooted for the party.
How long this shenanigans will have to continue and how much of its impact would rub on the chances of the party’s success against the rival PDP in the face of obvious disenchantment on the part of those who are hurt by these indifferences remains in the realms of conjecture.
We shouldn’t be oblivious of the fact that what we sow is exactly what we should expect to reap.
On my part I know the spiritual reward in playing the role I have engaged myself in playing albeit thanklessly, ever since I join the APC. I have no regrets whatsoever. And I do not subscribe to anti party for whatever it worth.
The burden usually is on those in the party who are bent on working against me surreptitiously both in my state of Cross river and elsewhere. I leave them to their consciences and time.
I make bold to say here that these persons know my undeniable commitment, competence and passion for the present administration under General Buhari and my deep knowledge of matters concerning national and local politics as expressed in my analyses on national issues in a number of published articles on different platforms with my imprints on them.
I espoused these views having functioned at that capacity both at the state and national level of a political party similar to APC in outlook and I have had the privilege of working together with notable personalities and men of high repute in my political journey where I recorded remarkable successes in crisis management and harnessing of the different dynamics involved in our local politics to achieve the expected results many years back.
They continue to gravel over my matter for obviously parochial and many unsustainable reasons because Nigerian politics is full of hate, jealousy, bigotry; backbiting, divisiveness and fueled by tribalism and nepotism.
But for the series of negative incidences that came in between my political journey at a time which I seldom blame on any mortal but the forces of nature that played out, I nonetheless kept the faith hoping that in the unforeseeable future, something will give.
But to leave politics, I won’t. Otherwise, short as this life is, compound fools and criminal elements as usual shall always be the ones to commandeer the political space, decide on governance and go ahead to play ping-pong with our destiny and that of our children now in schools and those yet unborn.
