A legal luminary, Chief (Barr.) Andrew Oru has said that he was grateful to The Grace Uzoma Okonkwo Foundation, which in collaboration with Department of English and Literary Studies University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), conferred on him the Pillar of Peace Award and some other eminent Nigerians at Nsukka on Tuesday.
The conferment was during the third International Conference organised by the body whose theme was on the Youth Crises in Twenty-first Century Africa: An Interdisciplinary Discourse.
The recipient noted that he would never take such an award for granted, adding that he was grateful to the leadership of the foundation.
Chief Oru was represented by the Nsukka branch President of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association, Dr. (Mrs) Christy Obi-keguna assisted by other prominent members of the branch, including Mrs. Adaora Awai, Mrs. Caroline Echezona, Mr/Mrs Ezenwa Obi-keguna, their daughter, Adaora Ozor, and Dr. Ekene Anikpe and Afam Iyida.
The President of the Senior Staff Club UNN, Prof. Ubaka was there to witness the award.
On his part, the awardee, Barr. Oru donated the sum of one million naira to the Foundation.
The award was conferred on him on behalf of the Foundation by His Royal Highness, Igwe Anthony Ochike of Lejja and the Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area Traditional Rulers’ Council assisted by the co-host and Head of Department of English and Literary Studies, UNN Prof. Sam Onuigbo.
