Ahead of political parties’ governorship primary election this year, the Save Enugu Group (SEG) has called on all stakeholders in Enugu State to respect Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s choice of the successor and support him or her.

The National Coordinator of SEG, Chief Willy Ezugwu in a statement issued in Abuja said that in “the same way the people believed in Governor Ugwuanyi and saw the best of him, the people of Enugu State, across all stakeholders, should be rest assured that the people’s governor will not take them back to political Egypt.”

The group said “we are confident that whosoever the Governor eventually picks will be the best man for the job, just as Governor Ugwuanyi has shown leadership by doing all things humanly possible to ensure that peace reigned the state.

“The result is the current unparalleled rural and urban development through rapid infrastructure and welfare for the citizens.

“The Ugwuanyi administration have scored several firsts in virtually all sectors, including commencing and completing the state’s first standard flyover bridge project located at Nike Lake/T-Junction, which is now rated among the ten most beautiful flyovers in the country.

“And despite the two major global economic meltdown and the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Ugwuanyi has continue to meet the demands of Enugu State workforce.

“In the same vein, Governor Ugwuanyi’s choice, despite the zone, is expected to possess same leadership qualities, be a lover of peace and the people irrespective of their zones like the people’s Governor.

“The Save Enugu Group (SEG) and her allied civil society organisations across the state therefore call on all stakeholders to rally round Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his would-be choice of successor for Enugu State to sustain, or even surpass, the current peace and development in all parts of the state”, the statement read.
