June 12: ALGON National President Hon. Kolade David Alabi Hails Rural Populace For Their Patience Amidst All Democratic Experience

The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Kolade David Alabi has, in his Democracy Day message, commended rural populace for their patience amidst all democratic experience, describing them as “the conscience of the Nigeria and the goose that lay the golden egg.”

The ALGON national leader said, “On behalf of the National Executive Council, the Board of Trustees BOT (Board of Trustees), Management and Staff of ALGON, I salute all Nigerians for yet another eventful commemoration of our 29 years of experience.

“Let me specifically appreciate all our constituents across the length and bredth of the Country for their resilience, confidence, hope and patience in all the long and ardours journey since 1993.

“Though we may have some reasons to celebrate looking back, it’s still a voyage.

“Let me use this opportunity to say that the rural dwellers are the conscience of the Nigeria and the goose that lay the golden egg with dreadful challenges which resonate within our communities and are like landmines to our development and growth.

“It is however important that hope should be rekindled as we continue to have faith in our Democracy.

“We appreciate all that has continued to stand up for issues bothering on strengthening the Local Governments and Councils.

“We appreciate Mr President for his support to the development of the Councils”, he stated.

Hon. Alabi added that “ALGON appreciates the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the National Assembly, State Assembly, the Defence and Security Organisation, Mass Media for their roles as ombudsman, many civil society, NGO’s and NULGE, Traditional institutions, Faith based organization, Women groups, Youths and the entire rural populace, we thank you all

“I will conclude by encouraging all of us that there are sliver linings in the horizon which suggest better things ahead. We shall trust in God for better.

“ALGON will continue to canvass for a strong LGAs and Councils that will ensure that development of our Communities remains an all time priority and make our founding fathers proud because it will be an assault on the psyche of framers of Local Governments and Area Councils and as a tier of government and one that is the closest to the masses of which we are supposed to remain
hugely indebted to them all hence we shall all struggle and make sacrifices to see that the system enjoys freedom, unhindered access for more meaningful impact”, Hon. Alabi said.
