Prince Bassey Otu Campaign Organization Cautions Supporters Over Use of Derogatory Words Against Opponents

Prince Bassey Otu Campaign Organization has urged supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, not to use uncomplimentary words against opponents of the top contender for the governorship seat in 2023 general elections.

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Campaign organization, Comrade Obi Ojage, in a statement said such vulgar campaign style is alien to the character and person of the candidate.

The statement came in reaction to an article tilted “The Greatest Calamity That Can Befall Cross River State People Is To Entrust Our Dear State Into The Hand Of Sandy Onor – Critical Stakeholders From Central” and credited to Citizen Ekanem Essien in which he used certain offensive words against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.

Comrade Ojage said that “It has been brought to my notice, the campaign organization and that of our candidate, Prince Bassey Otu, that there was an unnecessary attack on the person of the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the person of Senator Sandy Ojang Onor by one Citizen Ekanem Essien to the extent that Onor’s person was obviously attacked.

“This, as it seems to appear, was purported to be in the advancement of the candidacy of Prince Otu in the forthcoming governorship elections which carried derogatory comments which is quite alien to the nature, character, and what Prince Bassey Otu stands for and would want to be identified with in the coming campaign towards succeeding the outgoing Governor of the state.

“Ours shall be issue-based and not pettiness. And, therefore, the write-up by Citizen Ekanem Essien was not authorized by the campaign organization, Media and Publicity nor Prince Otu himself, as he is opposed to such unnecessary mudslinging especially when actual campaigns have not commenced.

“We, in the media team of Prince Otu’s campaign group have no intentions to initiate any act of blackmail or mudslinging in any guise against the image of the opponents of our principal in the coming campaigns as the populous acceptability of our candidate based on his past deeds are the good testimonial we are armed with and the reason behind his aspiration to be the next Governor.

“We needn’t use negativity or abusive words on anyone in order to sell his candidacy as that is defeatist and primitive.

“That notwithstanding, we shall respond appropriately to any story or publication that has any iota of negative statements meant to malign or paint our principal in a bad light in the public eye in the most professional manner.

“However, we encourage supporters of Prince Bassey Out, who have something positive to say in words or writing to freely do so unhindered as such facts will go a long way to confirm that what we’ve been saying about the APC governorship candidate is the truth and not mere propaganda”, the statement concluded.
