PTI Honours Ovie of Uvwie, Others As Fellows As Institute Ends 50th Anniversary With Graduation Ceremony
The Petroleum Training lnstitute PTl Effurun Delta State today 29th October 2022 at the Conference Centre of the lnstitute Honoured HRM DR Emmanuel Ekemejewan Sideso (JP) Abe 1 OON the Ovie of Uvwie kingdom with a Special Royal Father Award for his pivotal role and care as the Principal Host to the institution in the 50 Years of it’s existence in Uvwie land.
The Petroleum Training lnstitute also honoured some seasoned engineers and distinguished technocrats as PTI Fellows, the list of the recipients of this prestigious award includes Engr Simbi Wabote, Executive Secretary, Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Dr Solomon lyobosa Edebiri, MD Typhacenia Limited, Dr Victor Ekpenyong, CEO Kenyon lnternational, Engr Chief Anthony Ikpea, Executive Director, Operations and Projects, Lee Engineering and Construction Limited and CEO, Bon Hayatti Hotels, Engr Emmanuel Okubor, Principal Consultant/CEO Sheffield and Engr Austine Ovie Joseph,
MD/CEO JC International.
The Hon Minister of State for Petroleum Resources ably represented by Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduba as the Special Guest of Honour in his goodwill message stated that PTI overtime since its inception from 1972 till date has produced effectively on its core mandate, which is to train competent manpower for the oil and gas industry.
Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduba who congratulated the graduating students reminded them that the
knowledge they have acquired has equipped them to excel in the petroleum industry and beyond.
He pointed out that there are quite a number of opportunities available in this industry and the vital skills they acquired in the course of their study will be pivotal in actualizing the ever evolving goals of Nigerian oil and gas industry.
Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduba who seized the opportunity to reel out some of the successes of the PMB administration noted that despite the rigors of global economic recession that has adversely affected the economy, there are alot of key accomplishments that have put the sector and the nation’s economy on a firm pedestal to tackle the current challenges as well as derive more benefits for the growth of the Oil and Gas industry in Nigeria.
Continuing, he remarked : “The PMB administration has been supportive of the efforts to create a Nigerian oil and Gas Park at Odukpani, Cross River State. The ground breaking ceremony of the park was done in 2018 and it is expected to be completed by the 4th quarter of 2022.”
He added that the goal of the park is to create an environment for low-cost manufacturing that would produce equipment components and spare parts that will service the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry amongst others.
While harping on the fundamental essentials of PTI to the nation Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduba said: “The Petroleum Training Institute, has done very well as an indispensable organ of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, which cannot be ignored while mentioning the goals and achievements of this administration.”
He further extolled the Management capacity of PTI saying that “The management of the Petroleum Training Institute has aligned itself with the agenda of the Petroleum Ministry through its Research Directorate and the Petroleum Ministry has given the Institute mandates in different areas such as; research on the use of local materials in crude oil production, gas flare commercialization, and finding sustainable ways of increasing our nation’s domestic refining capacity in order to achieve its OPEC quota, l am glad to announce that they
have performed excellently well.”
Speaking in the light of contemporary changes in our society he said, “lt is important that the Petroleum Training Institute evolves in line with its core mandate which is: “to provide competent technological manpower through quality training, research, and consultancy for the petroleum and allied industries.
“Rapid changes in technology and the global arena requires that the institute also embrace contemporary new ways and methods in the delivery of its mandate.”
He urged the PTI Management to liaise with relevant parastatals and agencies of government, as well as local and international oil companies for the continuous upgrade of relevant training curriculum and equipment in the best interest of the Institute and all relevant stakeholders.
Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduba who stressed that there is always room for improvement noted that not withstanding the bold strides of the Management of the Institute, PTI can achieve more if the PTI Act is amended to make the Institute get more funding for its operations.
While expressing optimism about the future of PTI, Ambassador Gabriel the Special Guest promise that the ministry will synergise with the National Assembly to ensure that adequate attention is given to the amendment of the PTI Act.

The PTI Chief Executive who gave the break down details of the graduands of the 22nd convocation ceremony
disclosed that a total number of 1166 students are graduating in the 2020/2021 academic session in the Special ceremony fixed as the grand finale for the 50 Years Anniversary of the Institute .
Dr Henry Adimula the PTI boss further stated that ,659 students were awarded National Diploma (ND), 501 baged Higher National Diploma, 6 graduands received PTI General Welding Certificates respectively and out of the total number of graduands, 112 graduated with distinctions while 380 graduated with upper credit grades.
