The leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo on Saturday, campaigned for Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi in the ancient city of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
He urged a crowd of Labour Party supporters at the rally to vote in Obi, warning that enormous suffering awaits Nigerians if Obi doesn’t win the February 25 presidential polls.
The nonagenarian, who was at the rally held at the Ake Palace Ground in the state capital alongside another Afenifere chieftain, Chief Femi Okunrounmu, amongst others, cautioned the people to come out on the day of election and vote, saying, “don’t let them cheat us”.
Adebanjo, who addressed the people in Yoruba, said, “Ensure you vote, don’t let them cheat us. What is on the ground is not about Ayo Adebanjo. No matter what happens, I can’t be affected. I am expecting God to call me home. Enormous suffering await us if we don’t vote in Obi.”
The 94-year-old elder statesman had snubbed the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu who is from the South-West geopolitical zone to endorse Obi, a former Anambra State governor, saying in the interest of justice and fairness all Nigerians should be Obi-Datti compliant.
Obi has enjoyed a wave of endorsements in the last couple of weeks including those of former President Olusegun Obasanjo; Chief Edwin Clark of the Pan Niger Delta Forum; Dr Bitrus Pogu of the Middle Belt Forum, and Chief John Nwodo of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, amongst others.
It’s Time To Retake And Reset Nigeria For Development – Obi
Meanwhile, the Labour Party has said that it is time for Nigerians to take back the country and reset it for development.
Presidential Candidate of the party Peter Obi stated this while in the ancient town of Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital in Continuation of his campaign Rally.
Obi whose first point of call was the Palace of the paramount king, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, said he was in the race to rescue and rebuild a nation brought down by successive failed leadership.
Obi said securing the country will top his agenda if he is elected on February 25 because no development can take place without a conducive and peaceful environment.
He explained that the consumption to production mantra of his manifesto is intended to engage the youths who are in their productive age, reduce unemployment, empower and pull people out of poverty.
The former Anambra state Governor noted the strategic importance of Ogun state as a gateway state to Lagos, the nation’s commercial hub, promised to unlock development in the country through the easy way of doing business.
In addition to security, Obi also said that if elected, he will tackle squarely incessant power problem, invest massively in education and health and unite the country for development.
On his part, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, who noted that the country deserve good leadership to be able to tackle myriads of challenges prayed for him and his team and wished them well in their endeavour.
The Alake stressed that Obi is not just the best but his Presidency will address injustice and end political dominance in the country.
