PDP Cancels Presidential Rally In Rivers As Wike Mocks Atiku Camp
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council has announced the cancellation of a scheduled rally of its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Port Harcourt, the River State capital.
The presidential campaign planned to hold early this week would no longer hold, the PDP PCC Chairman in Rivers State, Senator Lee Maeba disclosed, citing insecurity.
Senator Maeba stated,” The expected victory of Atiku Abubakar does not worth the blood of any Rivers man or woman.”
However, in his reaction, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State mocked Atiku’s camp in the PDP, saying that he was not surprised that PDP Presidential Campaign Council put off its rally in the state.
Wike said the decision by the PDP presidential campaign council in Rivers to cancel its rally was expected because none of them has the political clout to mobilise an encouraging number of supporters for the rally.
Governor spoke on Monday at the State PDP rally in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area where he addressed some other political and development issues.
He described those in charge of the campaign of his party’s presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, as not having the political capacity to mobilise supporters in Rivers.
Wike and four other PDP governors in the southern region of Nigeria had for months demanded the resignation of PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu as a precondition to support Atiku’s presidential ambition in the February 25 poll.
