BREAKING: APC Suspends Serving Senator And APC Governorship Candidate
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended a serving Senator, who is also its Governorship candidate over alleged gross misconduct.
The Executive Committee of the APC in Yola South LGA of Adamawa State suspended the party’s Governorship candidate for the March 11 election, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani.
Ahmed Binani was suspended for a period of six months.
In the letter written and signed by 21 members of the party’s Local Government Executive Committee, Binani who is a serving senator was accused of failure to appear before a panel constituted to look into a petition against her.
The petition had also alleged that she has no regard for the party’s senior stakeholders, a situation that is responsible for the mass defection of APC members to opposition parties in the state.
The Street Reporters Newspaper reports that over 6,000 card-carrying members of the APC in Toungo local government area of Adamawa state had in August 9, 2022 defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In January, the immediate past Governor of Adamawa State, Senator Jibrilla Bindow, ditched the party and pitched his tent with the PDP.
An APC lawmaker in the state, Sonkuma Fwa, and his supporters estimated at about 15,000 had also defected to the PDP in January, citing lack of fair play in their former party.
Ahmed Binani was yet to react to the development at press time.
