Kwara 2023: SDP Denies Alliance With PDP, Others As Prince Adebayo Canvasses Support for Hakeem Lawal
Ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial and legislative elections in Nigeria, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo has urged Kwarans to vote Hakeem Lawal and other party’s House of Assembly candidates during March 11 elections.
This is even as the party has ruled out any alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other party in Kwara State.
Prince Adewole Adebayo made this known on Monday while addressing journalists after a meeting with SDP leaders and supporters in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
He said SDP is in the race to win elections, “not only in Kwara State, but across the country”.
According him, the party is out to make a difference to enable Nigerians choose between black and white.
While appreciating the state chapter of the party for working very hard ahead of the last presidential and National Assembly elections, Prince Adebayo urged SDP members to remain united and work towards attaining victory in the coming governorship and state Assembly elections.
The presidential candidate of the SDP in the February 25, 2023 elections while making some clarification at the party’s secretariat in Ilorin, said that the gubernatorial candidate of the SDP in the state, Alhaji Hakeem Lawal, had on a radio programme on Monday also ruled out a merger plan with any party in the state.
Prince Adebayo who expressed reservation about the outcome of the presidential election said Nigeria will not move forward until all the stakeholders recognise the need to fight poverty and insecurity.
On his part, the SDP chairman in the state, Alhaji AbdulAziz Adebayo, also corroborated the presidential candidate and the state’s gubernatorial candidate on the merger issue, saying the SDP was not contemplating any alliance with any party ahead of the gubernatorial poll.
The state chairman of the PDP, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, had last Thursday hinted about the possibility of the party forming an alliance with other parties to wrest power from the ruling APC in the state.
