Don’t Expect Bandwagon Effects During State Guber Polls, Quality of Candidates Will Count – Obi Ojage
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State and a veteran media consultant, Comrade Obi Ojage, has urged Nigerians not to expect a bandwagon effect in the forthcoming governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
He was reacting to what some political pondits described as the “Labour Party effect”, a situation where the electorates will cast their votes “from top to bottom” for Labour Party candidates, without considering the quality of the contenders vying for various elective positions in the states.
According to the fiery writer and communicator, who was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the electorates voted for Peter Obi without considering political party borderlines.
On the forthcoming governorship election, he said, “There is no banwagon effect. Nigerians voted competence and so would Cross River State people vote.”
According to him, the Labour Party governorship candidate in the state, Obu Ogar “is an unfit Labour Party candidate for Cross River State.
“We vote competence not party. Those of us in different political parties who supported Mr. Peter Obi, did so because he was the best and most popular among Nigerians.
“In Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu is the best and the most popular among our people. And he will be voted in as Governor”, the public affairs analyst and political activist said.
He insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Sandy Ojang Onor “is never a match to Prince Otu” of the APC in the state.
Recall that Prince Bassey Otu had emerged as a consensus governorship candidate among the APC stakeholders in the state before the party’s primary elections.
Comrade Obi Ojage, an adent supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, is known for speaking his mind on issues and has remained a top influencer in Cross River State politics for over a decade.
