As the 2023 governorship elections approaches, a Nongovernmental organisation ,Nigeria Female Youth Organization(NFYO) has cautioned politicians against using Nigerian youth as thugs to harass and ferment trouble during elections.

The president of the organisation, Princess Mimi Peters made this call in a statement she signed yesterday 16th March, 2023 in Abuja.

The group thereby called on youths to always shun political thuggery as they are leaders of tomorrow with a brighter future adding, “as youths, we must always defend our community positively instead of being used as tools for violence. We should make these sacrifice for ourselves and our future generation.”

Mimi called on politicians to desist from recruiting and resourcing gangs, cultists and youths for the purposes of perpetrating violence towards winning and destabilizing elections.

She further warned politicians that the organization will not take it easy on anyone found using the youths to cause destruction.

She called on the politicians to borrow a leaf from Hon Ned Nwoko who emerged the winner of the senatorial election in Delta North District, Delta State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

She said Hon Nwoko lost severel elections while contesting for the seat and had never used thugs to cause confusion in the state but rather kept trying until he emerged the winner recently.

While congratulating Hon Nwoko who scored a total of 92,514 votes to defeat the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Mr Kennedy Kanma, who got 86,121 votes and the incumbent and candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi, who polled 36,816 votes added that he never engaged the youths to cause rancour in the state.

Princess Mimi applauded the Senator-elect for Delta North Senatorial District, Prince Ned Nwoko, saying he has never acted violently,he always ensures peace reign whenever he losses election. His patience and steadfastness has granted him victory, she added.

“Even when he feels he won and the election was rigged he never resort to violence rather he follows the legal means.”

“This is how election should be. Election should not be a do or die affairs.” She said
